Echoes of Tradition

A heartfelt celebration of culture and creation, the installation reimagined the festive fair or ‘mela’ through the universal language of art. Drawing from India's diverse artistic heritage, it created a sense of nostalgia and memory through stories and traditions passed down through generations of artisans.

The design drew from Warli, Madhubani, Rajasthani Bandhani, Lippan art from Kutch and Gond art from Madhya Pradesh. An earthy palette of motifs, fabrics and colours came together with carousels, vibrant light structures and patterns, creating an environment that invited visitors to see, touch and experience the essence of Indian craft.

The spatial arrangement encouraged visitors to walk through, pause within and explore the installation from multiple points. Elements such as the traditional ‘chabutra’ bird feeder and patterned canopy carousel added an authentic sense of place, while programming lights across varying colours, sizes and depths brought the space together into a cohesive visual experience. By combining spectacle with storytelling, scale with culture, the installation created a celebratory pause within a commercial setting.
